Venmo App Pay in 4: Buy Now, Pay Later Explained

Pay in 4 is the Venmo App's buy now, pay later (BNPL) feature powered by PayPal's Pay in 4 product. It splits purchases between $30 and $1,500 into four equal, interest-free installments paid every two weeks. Unlike traditional credit, there's no hard credit check, no ongoing interest, and no annual fee — just automatic payments from your linked funding source.

How Pay in 4 Works Step by Step

1. Shop at a participating merchant online or in the Venmo App

2. Choose "Pay in 4" at checkout

3. Pay 25% upfront (first installment)

4. Three more automatic payments every 2 weeks

5. All payments complete in 6 weeks total

Pay in 4 Requirements

Must be 18 or older (19+ in some states)

US resident with verified Venmo App account

Purchase between $30 and $1,500

Soft credit check does not impact score

Available at participating merchants only

Late fees may apply if payments fail

Venmo App Business Profile: Selling Made Simple

A Venmo Business Profile is a separate profile you create alongside your personal Venmo App account. It's designed for freelancers, side hustles, and small businesses that want to accept payments through the platform. Business profile transactions are treated differently from personal payments in three important ways.

Business Profile Fee Structure

Sellers pay 1.9% + $0.10 per transaction on eligible payments to their business profile. This is significantly lower than typical credit card processing fees (2.9% + $0.30) and comparable to Square or Cash App for Business. Customers can pay using any funding source — Venmo balance, bank, debit card, or credit card — without extra fees on their end.

Tax Reporting for Business Profile

The Venmo App issues a 1099-K tax form to business profile owners who receive over $2,500 in 2026 (down from $20,000 in previous years due to updated IRS rules). All business income should be reported to the IRS regardless of whether you receive a 1099-K.

Venmo App Direct Deposit & Routing Number

You can set up Direct Deposit through the Venmo App to receive your paycheck up to 2 days early. The routing number is 124085244, and your unique account number appears in the Venmo App under Settings, then Direct Deposit. Once set up, funds automatically land in your Venmo balance on payday morning.

Direct Deposit Benefits

Get paid 2 days early compared to traditional banks

FDIC insurance up to $250,000 via Program Banks

Automatic cash check feature enabled

Higher weekly transaction limits

Free ATM access at 40,000+ MoneyPass locations

How to Set Up Direct Deposit

1. Open Venmo App, go to Settings

2. Tap "Direct Deposit"

3. Note your routing (124085244) and unique account number

4. Share these numbers with your employer or HR

5. Wait 1-2 pay cycles for the change to take effect

Venmo App Tax Documents & 1099 Forms

The Venmo App generates several tax documents depending on how you use the platform. Personal payments to friends and family are not taxable and don't generate any forms. Business transactions, cryptocurrency trades, and cash back rewards may all trigger tax reporting requirements.

Where to Find Your Venmo App Tax Documents

Log into the Venmo App between mid-January and February 15th each year to access your prior-year tax documents. Look under Settings, then Tax Documents. Forms are also emailed to the address on file. You'll receive:

Hidden Venmo App Features Most Users Miss

Automatic Cash Back to Crypto Conversion

If you have the Venmo Credit Card, you can automatically convert your cash back rewards into Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, or PYUSD every month. This happens automatically with no trading fees — just enable it in the Credit Card settings.

Split with Multiple Friends at Once

When making a payment or request, tap the "Split" toggle to divide the amount across multiple people evenly or by custom amounts. This works for restaurant bills, group gifts, roommate expenses, and vacation costs.

Cash a Check Through the Venmo App

Cash checks up to $5,000 (or $15,000 for select users) directly in the Venmo App by taking photos of the front and back. Money-order checks are free, while other check types cost 1% or $5, whichever is greater. Funds are available in your Venmo balance in seconds.
